A few weeks back, I had the pleasure of spending a week with my friends Christina and David Cavagnaro. I was there to support the opening of their floral shop, Walter Pine, which included a few long days, late-night eats (including a Philly cheesesteak which was my first!), and lots of laughs. Post opening, I managed to find some time to hit some of my favorite spots.
eats
- The bagels at Philly Style Bagels are delicious and made right in front of your eyes. Fair warning if you go there on a hot summer day, it’s even hotter inside the bagel shop. The bagel is worth all the sweat.
- I love all of the food at Suraya, but I highly recommend having the Tahina yogurt with an order of Zatar Manoushe (yes, dip the bread in the yogurt) and the Green Salad. I dream about that yogurt. Seriously, it’s heaven in a bowl.
- For coffee, I always love to hit up the massive La Colombe.
- Jim’s South St for a late-night cheesesteak. Be prepared with your order when you get to the window. Ask a local for help if needed, and be committed.
- OMG. The spaghetti and meatballs at Ralph’s…just go.
- Lunch or late afternoon coffee and pastry at the Hungry Pigeon is always a pleasant moment to the day.
Shopping
- The first stop will always be Walter Pine, a floral studio like no other! Find out more about the owners on the community page.
- I also love the shop Moon and Arrow. Great jewelry, home decor, and apothecary selection.
- Generally, my first stop in Fishtown is Vestige. I love it here. Everyone who works at this shop is friendly and helpful. A great place for vintage pieces, gifts, beauty, or a new dress. A very well-curated collection of beautiful goods.
- I love stopping in Philadelphia Record Exchange to peruse their collection of vinyl
- Stop into Field and Plant Supply to look at their cute cacti and pots. There is vintage apparel on the second floor.
